Milner it was who provided the cross from which England went ahead from the penalty spot before being subbed at the interval. Taylor meanwhile played the full game, taking over captaincy duties from Nigel Reo-Coker just after the hour mark. And Taylor marked his 15th appearance at this level with his fourth U21 goal, sweeping home a low left wing cross from Wayne Routledge on 77 minutes to put England three up. Despite the convincing victory the game ended with a pre-arranged penalty shootout to give England some practice ahead of possible spot kick tests in the Netherlands (although neither Toon man took part).
