THIERRY Henry's departure from Arsenal to Barcelona means Alan Shearer's
all-time Premier League goals record is no longer in the Frenchman's sights.
The striker, who will be 30 in August, is set to complete a switch to the
Nou Camp in the next few days and sign a four-year contract as part of a
reported ￡16m deal.
It means Henry bids au revoir to the Premier League, having netted 174
goals in our top flight. And unless he were to return to England before his
career ends, he will no longer be chasing down Big Al's tally any more.
The Geordie goal machine remains way out in front in the all-time standings,
having netted 260 Premier League goals with Newcastle United and Blackburn
Rovers.
And a look at the charts shows Henry was realistically the only player who
had a chance of surpassing Alan's achievement in the next five years or so.
Even our own Michael Owen (125) has some way to go to reach Shearer's amazing
total!
