The England striker was taken off after 50 minutes of Newcastle's 3-1 home victory over West Ham and manager Sam Allardyce said afterwards: "He's got a groin problem that we will have to look into a little deeper. "We will scan it again, get a specialist's opinion, and see where we go from there. But he is definitely out for Tuesday." Owen also came off in Newcastle's 1-0 defeat at Derby on Monday but Big Sam said: "I'm worried that he had to come off today because he felt it, whereas it was me who took him off against Derby. "Obviously, even though the scan was clear, there's a persistent area that's causing him a problem." While the nation wants Owen to play for England, and all Geordies want him to play for Newcastle United, Allardyce said the player's interests would come foremost. Whenever Owen's period of absence may come if surgery is required, Big Sam insists: "I will look after Michael Owen's interests more than anybody else's. He is our most expensive asset and we must address the problem straight away. But we have to get a specialist's opinion." Allardyce added: "If it needs to be surgery, then we will find the best in the world - when you find the best in the world, then they recover quicker than anybody else. "But I don't know (whether he needs surgery) until the specialist tells me so.
