Newcastle slumped to their third successive pre-season defeat after going
down 1-0 to Real Mallorca.
Mario Suarez scored the only goal of the game to help Mallorca lift the
Mallorca Cup.
The home side broke the deadlock after just six minutes when Suarez rose
highest to head home high past Steve Harper.
Newcastle new boy Sebastien Bassong missed Newcastle's best chance of the
game four minutes before the break when he headed James Milner's cross
wide of the target.
Kevin Keegan's men struggled to create any clear goal-scoring chances as
Mallorca dominated the second half.
Juan Arango came close to adding to the lead late on when his whipped
free-kick just cleared the crossbar.
The defeat ends a disappointing tournament for Newcastle after they also
lost the opening game of the competition to Hertha Berlin.
