[外電] Trembley not tinkering with lineup

Manager doesn't have a lot of options with thin bench
The Orioles have hit the skids offensively in recent games, but Baltimore
manager Dave Trembley has yet to push the panic button. The Orioles rank 11th
in the American League in batting average and runs scored and 12th in RBIs, but
they have seven regulars who have made 10 starts or more in one particular
batting slot.
Baltimore also has five starters batting .250 or lower, but Trembley said
Wednesday that he doesn't expect any radical changes anytime soon. The Orioles
are somewhat handicapped by having just three available position players on the
bench, and Trembley doesn't think the situation would be improved by further
dividing the playing time.
"I think about the lineup every waking moment of my life," he said. "I think
about the lineup as soon as that light goes on in my room in the morning and as
soon as I shut it off at night. That ought to tell you. But at this particular
point in time, to be honest with you, I don't really think there's a whole lot
of juggling that can take place. I just don't see it."
Outfielders Luke Scott, Nick Markakis and Adam Jones have made at least 18
starts in Baltimore's first 20 games, turning veteran Jay Payton into a
seldom-used reserve. Infielders Brian Roberts, Melvin Mora and Kevin Millar
have been just as active, leaving just shortstop and catcher as positions that
Trembley can tinker with from time to time.
The first four spots in the lineup -- those belonging to Roberts, Mora,
Markakis and Millar -- have remained the same virtually all season, and
Trembley said it's safe to expect them to stay that way for the foreseeable
future.
"People have been asking me about when Scott's going to hit fourth," said
Trembley. "Millar came up with a big hit last night, so nobody's asked me today
about that. That's just the way the nature of the beast is. If things work out,
no one says anything. As soon as they don't work out, then everybody here
becomes a rocket scientist.
"That's just the way the game is, and I enjoy that. I think it makes for good
conversation over a cup of coffee, and you can get them a dime a dozen here
in Seattle."
