http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-osside0228,0,7320509.story The Orioles' Matt Wieters, the game's No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America, has experience catching some of the organization's top pitchers. Here is his scouting report on several of the Orioles' top young starters. RHP Jake Arrieta: "He has four quality pitches, and he's a guy that has all the pitches right now. He's really just sort of looking for the confidence where he doesn't feel like he has to strike everybody out. Once he feels like he can let his defense play and just try to keep his pitch count down where he can comfortably get into the seventh and eighth inning, that's when he really is going to be extremely effective. Right now, he still has great outings, but because of his pitch-count level, he can't always get out of the fifth or the sixth. Once he gets into the seventh and eighth, that's when he's going to be really effective." RHP Brad Bergesen: "He's like the best guy ever to play defense behind because he's going to stay down and hit corners and get you a ton of ground balls. The defense is always going to stay in the game, and he's going to get you in the dugout more times than not in a quick fashion. He's one of those guys that you love to have out there on the mound because you're going to have a chance for that two-hour ballgame." RHP Brandon Erbe: "The best thing about 'Erb' is he's still young [21]. He's got a great arm, he's going to throw low to mid 90s as a starter, which is something you don't find in a lot of guys, and he also has a very good secondary pitch, a slider that he can throw. When he has those two pitches on, he's going to be very, very tough to hit. Once he gets to where he can command both sides of the plate, he's going to be just as effective against lefties and righties." RHP David Hernandez: "David has got the invisi-ball. He can throw the ball right down the middle and get away with so many pitches through the course of the game. Some guys just have that gift, where they can get away with mistakes. He gets away with mistakes often, and that's huge because when he does locate, he's going to be extremely tough to hit. Even when he does make a mistake, he's going to get away with it more times than not." LHP Brian Matusz: "He's polished. In the bullpen, he spots up everything. His breaking stuff, he can throw in any count that he wants for strikes. That's a huge plus for a guy just coming out of college. The one thing he's going to have to do is just controlling the arm-side fastball where he can get in on righties. Once he gets that pitch, he's going to be very tough to hit." RHP Chorye Spoone: "I caught Spoone one time in Double-A. His fastball is outstanding. He can throw his fastball 90 percent of the time and just let it move. He's going to get a ton of swings on his fastball. He has to work on his command, but I think the biggest thing for Spoone is to get healthy and get his arm back to where it was before." RHP Chris Tillman: "Tillman has two electric pitches between his fastball and curveball. His fastball just jumps on you. It's one of those fastballs where it looks like you're going to hit it and it just jumps right by you. His curveball is probably one of the best curveballs I've ever seen. He has two big league pitches, and he's another guy that's still real young. These guys just have to get experience. When they get the knowledge along with having the arms that they have, it's going to be special." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.160.68.183
