Guthrie agrees to one-year deal with Orioles
Right-hander avoids arbitration with $5.75 million contract

The Orioles have avoided arbitration with starter Jeremy Guthrie by agreeing
on a one-year, $5.75 million contract on Friday.
Guthrie, eligible for arbitration for the second year, exchanged figures with
the O's recently. The 31-year-old right-hander submitted a bid of $6.5
million, while Baltimore countered with $5 million.
Guthrie led the league in losses and posted a 5.04 ERA in 2009. But he
enjoyed a bounceback year in 2010, going 11-14 with a 3.83 ERA in 32 starts
(209 1/3 innings). For his seven-year career, he's 38-48 with a 4.15 ERA.
The O's have no arbitration-eligible players remaining. Guthrie's deal also
includes awards bonuses.
