Kevin Gregg, whom the Orioles designated for assignment on Tuesday, said he’ s “really disappointed” that he will not be able to make a final postseason push with the Orioles this season. But he also felt like he couldn’t thrive in a situation where he wasn’t pitching much. And when he wasn’t pitching much, he wasn’t effective, giving him fewer chances to pitch. Here are some quotes Gregg told The Sun moments ago: Gregg on being designated for assignment: “To be honest, I wasn’t surprised. It was a situation where both sides weren’t benefitting either way. It was just better off to get out of the situation we were both in.” On his difficulty pitching infrequently, caused because the rest of the bullpen has been so effective: “I’m a guy that the more that I pitch, the better I feel. I was put into a situation, before my last outing, that I pitched two games in 15 days or so. That’s not an easy situation for any pitcher to be in. It wasn’t a situation I felt good in and it wasn’t a situation that benefitted the team. It just wasn’t good for either side.” On not being part of the Orioles’ September postseason push: “In all honesty, it’s disappointing. This is a team that hadn’t been in contention in a long time. We hadn’t been this close to the postseason, and it’s something I really took pride in, in trying to help out these guys make the push to the playoffs. And not to be included in continuing the chase to the postseason is really disappointing. It’s something I have no control over. But, yes, it’s disappointing not to be a part of that now.” On fans booing him after a big contract and rough season in 2011: “ Sometimes, free agency doesn’t work for either side. It wasn’t that I wasn’ t well received here. I signed with Baltimore because I saw the potential here. It was exciting to me when I came here. It just didn’t work out. It wasn’t a good situation for me. I didn’t thrive in the situation.
