From Orlando Sentinel http://tinyurl.com/2z8qy

Okafor will join U.S. Olympic team
From Staff and Wire Reports
Posted June 26, 2004

Power forward Emeka Okafor said he will play for the U.S.
Olympic basketball team, a decision that does not
thrill(使興奮)the Charlotte Bobcats.
Okafor, in Charlotte on Friday to be introduced to the
community and to coach a scrimmage at a YMCA, was a finalist
for the last roster spot, but he and his agent said he has
accepted an invitation to play in Athens this summer.
Charlotte, which traded up to the No. 2 overall pick in the
NBA draft to select Okafor, doesn't share the joy.
"We are somewhat concerned because all that basketball
causes a lot of wear and tear and prevents you from being
fresh at the start of the season," Charlotte Coach and
General Manager Bernie Bickerstaff said. "We have many
concerns that we want to address."
The Bobcats want Okafor to work out with them and play in
summer leagues, something commitments with the U.S. team
could prevent.

Heat execs to extend deals
Terms on contract extensions for Miami Heat Coach Stan Van
Gundy and General Manager Randy Pfund have been agreed upon,
with those negotiations to be completed as early as Monday,
Heat President Pat Riley said.
Riley, who like Pfund and Van Gundy has one year remaining
on his contract, said his talks with Heat owner Micky Arison
are not as far along. The disclosure comes after the Heat
revealed that Riley met with Lakers officials last weekend
for a philosophical discussion about their coaching vacancy.

Big men key for Bulls
Even as the Chicago Bulls introduced new draft picks Luol
Deng and Ben Gordon, General Manager John Paxson said he is
counting on his young big men, Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry,
for the team to be a success.
"No matter what we did in the draft, they're the most
important thing going forward," Paxson said. "We need them
to make a big step. It's Year 4. They're still young, but
they have been in the league long enough to know what it
takes."
Paxson complimented Chandler's commitment thus far this
off-season, calling him "steady, reliable and focused."
But in comments made to WMVP-AM 1000, the Bulls' flagship
station, trainer Tim Grover called Curry's off-season
commitment "average."
If this work ethic doesn't improve, Paxson might be forced
to gauge Curry's trade value.
"I know a large part of what's going to happen depends on me
and Tyson," Curry said. "That's why they keep drafting
guards. They could have taken a big man. But they still have
confidence in us."
