Van Gundy Honored As Coach Of Month

The honors continue to roll in for the Orlando Magic.
On Tuesday, Stan Van Gundy was named Eastern Conference coach of the
month for January and point guard Jameer Nelson was selected to compete in
the skill challenge competition during NBA All-Star Weekend.
Van Gundy led the Magic to the best winning percentage for Eastern
Conference teams in January (.769), with the club going 10-3.
Orlando beat the Spurs, Lakers and Nuggets on the road as well as
the Cavaliers at home. The victories in San Antonio and Los Angeles helped
Orlando to record its first season-series sweeps in franchise history over
those teams. Orlando outscored its January opponents by 10.2 ppg.
Nelson already was heading to Phoenix after being added as an all-star
reserve to the East roster, joining teammates Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis.
Howard also will defend his slam-dunk contest title.
