If Nelson is out for the season -- and we'll know more today when an MRI is taken -- it hurts the Magic's chances to win a championship, but it doesn't decimate them. If this injury were to Dwight Howard, I'd be the first to write that the season is dead, but Jameer is not Dwight. The Magic's entire offensive and defensive schemes are predicated on Dwight. And let's not forget, the Magic still have two All-Stars on their roster in Dwight and Rashard Lewis and a third starter in Hedo Turkoglu who is a borderline All-Star. If you have other stars on your team, you can win a championship without an All-Star point guard. Stan Van Gundy certainly knows this better than anyone. Look no further than the first and last NBA championship team in this state -- the 2005-2006 Miami Heat. Van Gundy coached that Heat team (until he stepped down early in the season) and it won the title with Shaq and Dwyane Wade as the stars and Jason Williams playing point guard on the downside of his career. And speaking of Jason Williams: He just retired from the NBA a few months ago, he's played for Van Gundy and he lives right here in Orlando. Don't know what sort of shape he's in, but he's certainly worth a call from the Magic, who will need to add a point guard if Nelson is out for any length of time.
