The only thing is that instead of breaking everything down to start over, the Pacers actually really improved themselves through a savvy trade and a couple of really nice picks in the draft. The following takes a closer look at what the Pacers have done this summer, and how they deserved to be judged for each move. 這個夏天溜馬終於展開重建，透過將小歐給交易掉。 Players Added Via Trades T.J. Ford: In picking up a bona fide point guard, the Pacers finally have a floor general they can count on. Considering Jermaine O'Neal's injury history and gigantic contract, Ford was a reasonable return in trade, as long as he can stay healthy himself. He's a more than serviceable backup and can certainly step in as a starter if (or when) Ford gets hurt. Essentially, all he cost the Pacers was Ike Diogu in that Brandon Rush trade. He's had his ups and downs over the last year, but he's a huge guy with great rebounding and defensive skill sets. He'll be fine. Business to Be Done There's virtually nothing left for the Pacers to do at this point except watch their remaining third-tier free agents walk. With so many guys under contract already, the only other moves we'll see the Pacers make between now and the start of the season are some cuts. Total Off-Season Grade The Jermaine O'Neal trade was a good thing that yielded a lot of smaller pieces, all of which are great for the rebuilding process. Keeping Bayless instead of trading him and Ike Diogu to Portland for Rush and Jack arguably would've been a smart move, but both of the guys Indy got out of the deal will contribute in very positive ways for the Pacers. The bottom line is that they'll have a better record this year than they did last year, and it's even possible that they'll make the playoffs. That's an improvement worthy of high marks.
