The Padres' ace kicked off Interleague Play on Friday night with another overpowering effort as San Diego extended its winning streak to eight games with a 6-1 decision over the Mariners in front of 38,400 at Safeco Field. Peavy (4-0) silenced Seattle on three singles across seven innings, striking out 10. Dennys Reyes, whose second pitch was launched over the wall in left by Miguel Olivo, pitched the eighth, and Akinori Otsuka finished the job. The Padres are 8-1 in Peavy's nine starts. In 63 innings, the 23-year-old right -hander has issued only 12 walks while striking out 71. His ERA is 2.29, compared to his Major League-leading 2.27 mark last season. The NL West front-running Padres have won 17 of 20 since starting the season 9-13. The Friars lead in their Interleague series against the Mariners, 23-16, and are 11-9 in Seattle. The Padres are 61-68 overall in Interleague competition. Peavy, 5-2 in eight Interleague starts, has faced the Mariners three times and not allowed a run in 21 2/3 innings, including 15 scoreless innings in Seattle. Dominant from the first pitch on Friday night, Peavy had retired 12 in a row, six by strikeouts, when Richie Sexson led off the fifth with a single through the middle. One out later, Bret Boone beat out a slow roller, and the Mariners threatened. But Peavy struck out Jeremy Reed and Olivo to quell the threat. Ramon Hernandez jolted Ryan Franklin (2-5) with an opposite-field solo homer in the second. Geoff Blum's RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Dave Roberts, who was robbed of a base hit by Ichiro Suzuki in right-center, made it 3-0 in the fifth. The Padres busted it open in the seventh. Walks to Blum and Roberts ended Franklin's night.
