[情報] Broken record: another 2-1 win

When Scott Hairston slammed a 10th-inning pitch, the Padres marched into
the major league record books last night.
Hairston's 392-foot home run against the New York Mets made the Padres the
first team to win four consecutive games by a 2-1 score.
Not even the Dead Ball Era produced such a streak.
"Really?" said Padres manager Bud Black when told of the record, verified
by the Elias Sports Bureau. "I like it."
Sending the Mets off the field at Petco Park and the Padres to home plate
for a celebration, Hairston socked Pedro Feliciano's 3-1 fastball over the
wall in left-center to lead off the 10th.
A man in a brown-and-gold Padres cap caught the ball. By winning today, the
Padres can further recall a previous decade, specifically the year 1980,
which is the last time they swept a four-game series from the Mets in San
Diego.
The Padres, who are fourth in the National League West, have won nine of
their past 13 games. Their fourth straight win is also a season-high.
"We're pitching well, getting good defense and the timeliness of the hitting
is showing up," Black said.
In each of the four games, a starting pitcher has given the Padres at least
six innings with one run allowed, and the bullpen has provided scoreless
relief, 11 innings in total.
Last night, Cha Seung Baek held the Mets to one run in six innings. After
reliever Bryan Corey followed with two scoreless innngs and Heath Bell and
Mike Adams each put up a zero, the Mets sent out Feliciano, their fourth
reliever of the night.
He grooved his 3-1 pitch, and Hairston socked it for his third walk-off home
run since joining the Padres last summer.
"I didn't think at first it was going to get out; you never know in this
ballpark," Hairston said. "I just tried to stay short to the ball.
"I'd love to get used to this. I can't explain it but it's nice. It really
feels good."
In this series, Padres pitchers have exploited Mets hitters who seem
determined to pull pitches out of Petco. Hairston is a right-handed hitter
who is making a living at the place. He has hit 13 home runs in 214 at-bats
at Petco since joining the Padres. Seven of his nine homers this year have
come at Petco.
"He's got that type of swing," Black said. "He's got some strength in his
swing."
Padres catcher Michael Barrett, meantime, has appeared more suited to Wrigley
Field, his home park before the Padres got him last June. Barrett's first
home run in a Padres uniform pulled San Diego into a 1-1 tie in the fifth
inning. Barrett was in his 177th at-bat as a Padre when he lined Oliver
Perez's pitch over the left-field wall.
"I've been pressing to get that first one out of the way," Barrett said.
Two nights after the Padres won a game by getting hit by a pitch, three more
hit batsmen loaded the bases for them with one out in the sixth with the
score 1-1 and matched the franchise record set in June 1994, when three
Padres were plunked in the same inning at Denver.
Two of the wayward pitches last night were chucked by Perez, who gaffed three
Marlins in an inning last year. But the Padres were unable to break through.
The Padres botched a rundown play in the second, or the Mets might not have
scored all night. Barrett, the catcher, held the ball too long as he backed
speedy Carlos Beltran toward third base, which allowed Beltran to retreat
ahead of Barrett's late throw to shortstop Khalil Greene. The play denied
Baek the first out and loaded the bases, but Baek limited the Mets to one
run.
