[情報] Padres name Maddux spring instructor
PEORIA, ARIZONA (TICKER) —Future Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux, who retired
in December after winning 355 games over a 23-year career, has been named a
spring instructor for the San Diego Padres.
San Diego manager Bud Black said the 42-year-old Maddux accepted a position
with the Padres and will join the team Wednesday after being offered a similar
job with the Chicago Cubs, another one of his former teams.
Maddux began his final season with the Padres last year before being traded to
the Los Angeles Dodgers in August.
“A lot of my conversations with Greg (last season) were about the future and
what he wanted to do beyond baseball,”Black said.“(General manager) Kevin
(Towers) and I approached him with the idea to come into camp as an additional
staff member to learn about life on the other side. He was excited about the
possibility.”
While Maddux's role is undefined, Black said he will work with the players
during training camp.
“It gives me, the coaches, even Kevin, a new perspective of a recently retired
player,”Black said.“A guy of Maddux's resume, he's a great resource.”
