The Hornets survived the third quarter of Saturday's 77-71 victory against the Heat, which is more than they can say about Wednesday's disaster. New Orleans missed 19 of 21 shots in the third quarter of Wednesday's 93-63 loss, tying a franchise-low for fewest points, 10, scored in a quarter of a playoff game. In Saturday's game, the Hornets were outscored 21-16 in the period. They made 7 of 19 shots but held onto their lead, 57-50, at the end of the period. BUSY BIG EASY Attendance for Saturday's playoff game was generously listed at 14,251. The Hornets had plenty of competition around New Orleans. The second day of the Jazz Festival, second only to Mardi Gras in annual attendance, was Saturday. So was the NFL draft, which kept many New Orleanians home to see who the Saints would take as well as how the Eli Manning soap opera would play out. Manning is a New Orleans native, and his family still calls the city home. In addition, the LSU spring football game was televised. The Tigers are coming off a national championship season. SLOWING THE HEAT New Orleans point guard Baron Davis said perhaps the biggest key to Saturday's victory was putting the brakes on the Heat's fast break. Miami had only eight fast-break points to New Orleans' seven. "We got back today," Davis said. "Every time somebody shot the ball, we wanted to get two guys back quickly on defense. That's what we worked on in practice. They outrebounded us, and we shot 36 percent. But they weren't fast-breaking and getting a lot of stuff in their transition offense. That's where we're going to be most effective, slowing them down and making them execute in their half-court offense." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.166.75.66
