That interview is expected to occur in Los Angeles either today or Monday. Cooper will become the second former Los Angeles Lakers player to interview for the job. Former New Jersey Nets coach Byron Scott, who won three NBA championships as a player with the Lakers, interviewed in New Orleans last week. Shinn also plans to talk with former Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Fratello about the coaching vacancy while he's in Los Angeles. Fratello is an analyst for TNT and the network is televising the Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves. The series resumes in Los Angeles on Tuesday for Game 3. There's also a chance that New Jersey Nets assistant Brian Hill could be interviewed this week. The Hornets have received permission from the Nets to interview Hill, who was a finalist for the job last year. Attempts to reach Cooper in Seattle on Saturday were unsuccessful as the Sparks played the Seattle Storm. Cooper started his head coaching career as an assistant with the Lakers from 1994-97. He has never been an NBA head coach. He joined the Sparks in 1999 as an assistant coach, and the following season he was promoted to head coach. Entering his fifth season, Cooper guided the Sparks to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2001 and 2002, and they have won three consecutive Western Conference titles. Cooper played in the NBA for 11 years and won five championships with the Lakers. He retired after the 1989-90 season. . . . . . . .
