It gives me a chance to see these guys against a different opponent instead of seeing ourselves against each other. I think everybody’s looking forward to it. I think the players are. I think they’re a little tired of beating up on each other and going against each other every single day but, again, it’s something that we need putting in a whole new system. These guys are getting pretty familiar with it and they’re a lot further along right now than I expected to be at this particular time so I’m happy about that. (on the speech in the huddle after practice by Armstrong, Davis and himself) I think what brought that upon us was a couple of the young guys had something to say to Coach Walker under their breath but he heard them and the message I think is pretty clear by Darrell and Baron. We’ve got a great staff here and all four of us are pretty much an old school staff so we’re not going to take anything from anybody on this team. I think the veteran guys understood that and they’re trying to make it known to these younger guys that whatever we say goes and you have to listen to us. The one thing about us as coaches is that we’re not going to tell them anything that’s going to hurt them. We’re here to help them because if we can help them, then it helps us as a staff as well so we’re all just trying to be positive and help each other out as well. (on how much of the offense will be seen on Wednesday) About 20 percent of it. That’s it. And you’ll probably see that 20 percent throughout the preseason. I won’t put a lot of the stuff in that we’ll be running during the game. We’ll do all that stuff in practice to get ready for game 1 of the regular season. I don’t want teams that are going to be scouting us, Dallas being one of those teams because we play them the first game of the season. I don’t want to put everything in now and try to run everything in the first game so they get a good look at everything. They’re going to get one set, basically. That’s it. But that one set has 15 or 20 variations to it. (on injured players Rodney Rogers and David Wesley that sat out today’s practice) Rodney is day-to-day and so is David. Both guys have hamstring problems. I’m very familiar with hamstring injuries so the last thing I’m going to do is push those guys. David said he’s never had an injury like this. It’s probably pretty minor but I’m going to be extra cautious with David and Rodney at this particular point. (on David West and his progression) On watching him last year, I thought he was a pretty good-looking rookie. I thought he did some real good things. I see the same things now that I saw last year but just better. And it seems like he’s doing it with more confidence. The one thing that I didn’t see last year was that he could put the ball on the floor as well as he can and he’s really an excellent passer so those are two things that I see now that impress me. I really like what I see in David West. I think he’s going to be a great guy. I’m telling him to shoot the ball. He has a good touch from 17, 18 feet and I’m telling him to look for that shot on a consistent basis and if he does and he knocks it down on a consistent basis, it makes him a much more dangerous basketball player. (on Chris Andersen) I knew “Bird” was as athletic as any guy we have here. I knew he could block shots and I knew he was a heck of a defender. But offensively, I didn’t know how well he shot the ball and that’s been the big pleasant surprise that I’ve gotten from him. He’s very, very energetic like I knew he would be. He brings it every single day. You’ve got to love that. He runs the floor better than any big man in this league probably. From him, the one thing that I wasn’t thinking about was getting offensive productivity but I think now, watching him in practice, we’re going to definitely be able to use him on the offensive end as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Forward/Center Chris Andersen (on getting his chance to show his offensive and defensive sides) Yeah, definitely coming from the Rocky Mountains and coming back down to sea level, I’m able to do what I did back in college and just run. (on if he wants to be more aggressive offensively) It just depends on what the offense or defense gives because it’s a read offense. Whatever coach wants us to do is what we’re going to do. (on if the Hornets are good enough to win in the West) Definitely. The teams have equaled out. I’ve gone against KG in the playoffs and I did pretty well against him. I’m used to playing against most of those guys in the West. I’ve already got a little bit of an advantage on that. (on matching up against Magloire in practice) It’s going really good. It’s helping me out and helping him out as well because he’s got some good moves and I’m just trying to push him to his limits and he’s pushing me to mine and it’s just making us a better team. (on what areas in which he feels he’s improving) Definitely my jump shooting because I meant to work on that all summer and I did and now I’m getting to a groove. Whenever I have a coach that is confident in my shot and I’m confident in it then it’s going to fall. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.117.190.7
