Davis to miss one to two weeks
Exam shows guard has inflamed disc

MILWAUKEE -- Hornets point guard Baron Davis could be sidelined
seven to 14 days after an MRI examination Saturday disclosed an
inflamed disc in his lower back, Coach Byron Scott said.
Davis was injured in Friday's game against the Atlanta Hawks
after he made a 3-pointer. Davis, the Hornets' leading scorer
with a 24.6 average, did not make the trip for Saturday's game.
"It's obviously a real blow to our team," Scott said. "He's the
best player we have, and he wants to win about as bad as anybody.
Now it's just a matter that we're going to have two or three guys
get an opportunity to show what they can do.
"Most of the time when you have situations like this, when your
best player goes down, it really seems like the guys rally and
play better. We're hoping that's the case."
Davis remained in the game after being injured, but lost his
cool a few minutes later when he got hit on the elbow by Hawks
forward Antoine Walker. During a timeout, Davis walked toward
the Hawks' bench and shouted at Walker. Scott said he has
spoken to Davis about the incident.
Davis had back problems during the 2002-03 season, missing
eight games with back spasms. He also missed 20 games that
season after having arthroscopic surgery to repair torn
cartilage in his left knee.
ACTIVATED: Backup point guard Junior Harrington was activated
off the injured list Saturday to provide depth with Davis out.
To make room on the active roster, forward Rodney Rogers was
placed on the injured list. Rogers strained his left knee at
Wednesday's practice and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
STILL A PROBLEM: Scott says the Hornets are still not playing
smart basketball. "We keep putting ourselves in this position,
and it's not a good to be in," Scott said. "But you have to
fight back."
DEFENSIVE FLAWS: It's no surprise why the Hornets entered
Saturday's game 0-5. They are yielding 48.9-percent shooting,
the fourth highest in the league. The Los Angeles Lakers,
Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks all shot 50 percent or
better in victories against the Hornets. The highest the
Hornets have allowed is 53.8 against the Mavericks.
ADJUSTING: Forward David West played only six minutes against
the Hawks. He took one shot, committed two turnovers and had
two fouls.
"I just haven't found my comfort zone on the floor or in the
offense yet," West said before Saturday's game. "All I can do
is keep working and hope things turn around."
West played 18 minutes Saturday night, and scored eight points.
SHOOTING PROBLEMS: Entering Saturday, guard Darrell Armstrong
had made two of 12 3-point attempts in the past two games. The
first shot Armstrong's made against the Bucks was a 3-pointer.
He finished 5-of-9 from behind the arc.
