BOSTON -- It's been one week since Jim Jackson chose
unemployment over futility. The 2-27 Hornets acquired
Jackson from Houston last Tuesday, and the veteran
guard/forward has yet to report.
Based on his $2.475 million salary, the suspended Jackson
lost $55,000 for missing the past two games, 2/90th of
his annual salary.
When asked if the Hornets might give in and trade Jackson
to another team, General Manager Allan Bristow said, "At
this point, no."
"I haven't really been worried too much about it," said
Hornets coach Byron Scott, who says he is "going to coach
the guys I've got here, that want to be here."
RODNEY'S BACK: Hornets forward Rodney Rogers returned from
a sprained left knee injury, playing 28 minutes and scoring
10 points with seven rebounds in Monday night's 108-90 loss
at Boston.
"I was happy with Rodney," Scott said. "He gives us a sense
of stability."
Rogers appeared in the first four games of the season,
averaging 4.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 19.3
minutes. The 6-foot-7 forward was placed on the injured
list Nov. 13 and had missed the past 24 games.
To make room for Rogers, the Hornets waived forward Corsley
Edwards. He was signed Dec. 4 and appeared in nine games,
averaging 2.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Edwards
began the season in the Continental Basketball Association
with the Sioux Falls Skyforce before being signed by the
Hornets.
INJURY UPDATE: George Lynch (right foot) made the trip to
Boston but was not in uniform. Junior Harrington (right
knee) played after missing four games, scoring two points
in 20 minutes. David West (right knee contusion) has begun
running, and is expected back in two to three weeks, Scott
said.
PAYTON OUT: Veteran Celtics guard Gary Payton sat out Monday
night with a strained left hamstring. Payton averages 12.4
points, third-best on Boston, and he leads the team with 6.4
assists per game.
TRIPLE THREAT: The Celtics' Paul Pierce had his third triple
-double of the season -- 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists
-- and it was the first triple-double the Hornets have allowed
since the Lakers' Kobe Bryant did it Feb. 16, 2001. It was
their first triple-double allowed on the road since Boston's
Antoine Walker on April 16, 1997.
QUICK SHOTS: Hornets center P.J. Brown's 15 rebounds tied his
second-best effort of the season. His season-high was 17
against the Lakers on Dec. 22. The other game in which he
grabbed 15 rebounds was the triple-overtime loss at Golden
State. . . . The score at the half Monday night was 46-46.
The Hornets have only led at the half four times this season,
and three of those times they led by one point. . . . With
2:42 left in the first half, Hornets forward Lee Nailon drew
his third foul and then was called for a technical foul. . . .
The Hornets wore their "Mardi Gras" gold uniforms Monday night.
The Hornets will wear those uniforms on all single-game road
trips and for the Feb. 16 home game against San Antonio.
