MIAMI -- Casey Jacobsen spent another crash-course session
before Sunday's 97-68 loss to the Miami Heat to get more
familiarized with the Hornets' play sets.
Jacobsen, Jackson Vroman and Maciej Lampe were obtained by
the Hornets on Friday in a trade with the Phoenix Suns for
guard Jim Jackson, who had refused to report.
While Vroman and Lampe both dressed but did not play Saturday
night against the Los Angeles Clippers, Jacobsen made his
debut and scored one point in 10 minutes. After the game, the
Hornets boarded their charter plane for Miami.
"I really haven't time to collect my thoughts," Jacobsen said
before Sunday's game. "I haven't even unpacked. When I arrived
in New Orleans Saturday, I set my bag down and a car comes to
take us to the game. I haven't been able to return 25 to 30
phone messages from friends and family wanting to hear how
everything happened."
The Hornets are not scheduled to practice today, but Jacobsen
said he will be going to the Alario Center anyway to go over
more plays with the coaching staff. Vroman and Lampe also are
expected to attend.
"I've already picked up a few things from being in the games,"
Jacobsen said. "I can read the playbook all I want, but until
you actually get on the court for games or practice, it's still
going to be foreign to me. I'm going to practice (today) to get
ready."
Jacobsen led the Hornets with seven rebounds and he scored nine
points in 32 minutes Sunday. Lampe played 15 minutes and scored
two points and grabbed three rebounds. Vroman played 12 minutes
and scored two points.
MORE RECOVERY TIME: Forward David West remains more than a week
away from returning from a bone bruise in his right knee that
has forced him to miss 26 games since Dec. 7. West participated
in a practice last week and experienced swelling.
"It's still bothering him, and I saw him limping," Hornets coach
Byron Scott said.
West had his leg stretched with a large ice bag over his injured
knee during the end of Friday's practice at the Alario Center.
He made the trip to Miami with the team.
NOT IN ROTATION: Forward George Lynch has recovered from a sore
right foot that forced him to miss five games. But he remains
watching from the bench.
"He's not in the rotation, and that's the bottom line," Scott
said. "I've got an eight- and nine-man rotation right now."
LARGE MARGIN: The Heat's 29-point margin of victory is its
largest against the Hornets in the 58-game series.
BAD PLACE: It was the Hornets' first return to AmericanAirlines
Arena since they lost to the Heat in Game 7 of last season's
first-round playoff series.
POOR DEFENSE: The Hornets surrendered 50-percent shooting by
the Heat. The Heat also outscored the Hornets 42-32 in the
post and had a 17-6 edge in second-chance points.
INJURY UPDATE: Baron Davis missed his fourth consecutive game
because of a bruised right Achilles tendon. He is expected to
return for Wednesday night's game against the Houston Rockets
at New Orleans Arena.
