Hornets guard Baron Davis will remain sidelined until at
least through the All-Star break with a bruised right
Achilles tendon even though he was activated before
Friday night's game against Golden State.
Davis, who has missed the past eight games, will not be
able to practice until Feb. 21. The Hornets play Seattle
on Feb. 23.
"He (Davis) can move up and down pretty good, but his
lateral movement still has a little pain," Hornets coach
Byron Scott said. "It's just a precautionary move to wait
until after the All-Star break and go on from there."
Scott said he wanted Davis back against Golden State.
"With all the treatments and things he has going, we were
hoping that it would heal a little quicker than it did,"
Scott said. "Were a little disappointed not having him, so
we will wait until this weekend's over and start looking
forward to the second half."
The Hornets would have had to apply for another league
exemption if Davis hadn't been activated Friday. They have
the maximum three players on the injured list with Jamal
Mashburn, Jamaal Magloire and David West.
Davis is the Hornets' leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points
and 7.3 assists per game, Earlier this season, Davis missed
19 games with an inflamed disc in his lower back.
RECORD BUSTERS: With their 10th win of the season, the Hornets
can't have the worst single-season record in NBA history. The
1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers went 9-73. The next worst season
was by the Dallas Mavericks, who went 11-71 in the 1992-93
season.
INJURY REPORT: Forward Lee Nailon missed his fifth consecutive
game with a sore left groin. Nailon said he will work out
today, but remains questionable for Sunday's game against
Orlando. Scott said Magloire appears to be on schedule to
return after the All-Star break. West remains sidelined with
a knee contusion he suffered against Detroit on Dec. 4.
MOMMA'S HERE: J.R. Smith's mother, Ida Smith, attended her
fifth game, sitting behind the Hornets' bench and wearing her
son's No. 23 jersey. J.R. Smith, the Western Conference Rookie
of the Month in January, finished with 15 points, 13 of those
coming in the second half. Smith gives his mom credit for him
learning how to shoot the basketball. "Whenever she gets a
chance to come down, I always try to play my hardest for her."
意思是 All Star之後 小胖跟Magloire都會回來 (最好的情況下)
