Hornets release pair of veterans
Robinson, Davis weren't in plans

Hornets general manager Allan Bristow never had veteran
forwards Dale Davis or Glenn Robinson in his rebuilding
plans, despite obtaining both in trades last week.
On Tuesday, Davis and Robinson were waived after Bristow
reached contract buyout settlements with both. Davis and
Robinson are free to sign with any other teams as free
agents.
Davis' agent, James Wells, said his client wanted to play
for a contending team. The Indiana Pacers are expected to
sign Davis today to a contract for the remainder of the
season. No team has struck a deal with Robinson, who has
missed the entire season because of tendinitis in his left
ankle.
"They both have been great professionals with great careers,
but we decided to give them a chance to play with a team
that's not rebuilding," Bristow said. "We also didn't want
to take minutes away from some of our younger players that
we're trying to see what we have."
The Hornets obtained Robinson from the Philadelphia 76ers
last Thursday in exchange for forwards Jamal Mashburn and
Rodney Rogers.
Davis was obtained from the Golden State Warriors just before
Thursday's trade deadline, with guard Speedy Claxton, in
exchange for point guard Baron Davis. Unlike Claxton, Dale
Davis and Robinson never reported after they were acquired.
The Hornets' objective was to clear space off their salary
cap, and Dale Davis and Robinson were in the final year of
their contracts.
New Orleans paid Dale Davis, whose deal this season is worth
$10.1 million, one-third of his prorated salary for the
remaining 27 games. Davis was due to make $3,325,609 and
accepted a buyout of $1,1108,536.
Robinson's contract called for $12 million this season.
The Hornets paid him $1,317,073 of his remaining $3,951,219
salary.
Dale Davis averaged 3.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 36 games
this season with the Warriors. He is a 13-year veteran who
previously played for the Indiana Pacers and Portland Trail
Blazers.
Robinson is a 10-year veteran who previously played for the
Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks. He has a 20.8 career
scoring average.
