SAN ANTONIO -- Hornets swingman Chris Andersen missed Monday
night's game and remained in New Orleans, where he was
hospitalized Sunday with an elbow infection.
Andersen first injured his right elbow Feb. 28 in a loss at
Dallas, splitting it open near the bursa, which required
two stitches.
"For two weeks we've tried to keep it clean, and he was on
oral antibiotics, but he kept opening it up," trainer Terry
Kofler said Monday. "He opened it up real good the other
night (against Milwaukee) and came in Sunday and it was
swollen.
"We put him in the hospital and he's getting (intravenous)
antibiotics. They cleaned it out, so you could call it a
small surgical procedure."
Andersen also will miss Wednesday night's home game against
Memphis.
Andersen had scored in double figures in six of New Orleans'
past seven games after scoring in double figures in 14 of
his first 53 games this season. In eight games since the
All-Star break, Andersen is averaging 10.1 points and nine
rebounds per game and is hitting 60 percent of his field-goal
attempts.
Andersen's absence, along with that of forward George Lynch
(personal reasons), left the Hornets with nine players in
uniform for Monday's game against the Spurs.
Maciej Lampe replaced Andersen on Monday night.
