Hornets Hire Miller
Oklahoma City - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced that they have
hired David Miller as an assistant coach. Miller joins Darrell Walker, Jim
Cleamons and Kenny Gattison on the staff of Head Coach Byron Scott.
"David will be an integral part of improving our team and helping me get them
to the next level," said Scott. "He brings over 18 years of coaching to our
team, so I am anxious for him to impart that knowledge to our players."
Miller brings 18 years of professional and collegiate coaching experience to
the Hornets bench. His last coaching position was at The University of Southern
California where he served as then Head Coach Henry Bibby's top assistant.
Miller helped lead the Trojans to an appearance in the Elite Eight in the 2001
NCAA Tournament, where they fell to Duke, 78-69. Miller coached at USC for five
seasons (1996-2001) and helped recruit nationally ranked classes to USC. During
his time, the Trojans made the NCAA Tournament twice (1997 and 2001) and the
NIT Tournament once (1999).
Most recently, Miller has served as a Nike National Skills Instructor for the
past two years and an on air correspondent for Fox Sports' "Best Damn Sports
Show" for the past three years.
Previous to his time with USC, Miller was the top assistant at Utah State
(1993-96), Lamar (1993), West Point (1991-92), Arizona State (1990) and Texas
(1987-89).
Miller earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Springfield
(Mass.) College in 1985, while serving as head coach of the school's junior
varsity team during his junior and senior seasons. He received a master's
degree in sports management in 1986 from Eastern Kentucky, where he was a
graduate assistant coach during the 1986 season.
