Chris Paul 背負著超大的 hype 來到 NBA，他的體能條件、傳球視野、領導能力，綜合起來，有人說他是自Jason Kidd 以來最好的prospect。但是加入 NO/Oklahoma Hornets，這個聯盟裡戰績、市場墊底，剛遭受 Katrina 重創的球隊，球評說，他們有比籃球更重要的事。但是隊上的年輕小夥子可不這麼想，他們的領導者 P.J.Brown 在擊敗 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs後說: The young guys, they want to be on TV. They want respect. 這一晚 Chris Paul 以 17分 12籃板 9助攻技驚全場，儘管之前的數據就已經非常漂亮、球隊也先後擊敗強隊如 Philly、 Phoenix 和 LAC，但是這一晚他們在爆滿的 Ford Center (如假包換的爆滿，比最大容量多104人)裡面，贏得了全世界 NBA 球迷的注目。大家都還記得 Greg Anthony，那個曾經在拓荒者待過的PG吧。他在 ESPN 裡寫道: It's one thing to be a good player as a rookie. It's another thing entirely to be a superstar in the making. That's Paul.
