Rebuilding Phillies take a chance on Araujo's power arm November 13, 2014 / Jim Salisbury PHOENIX - The Phillies did something on Thursday that they might not have done if they weren't a rebuilding team.They signed a minor-league free agent to a major-league contract. 沙利斯貝瑞說若不是在重建一般很少人會幹這種事如本給了一位名不見經傳的小檸檬球員大檸檬約！！ The guy's name is Elvis Araujo. He is a 23-year-old, 6-foot-6 lefty who pitched in the Indians' system from 2008 to 2014. He became a minor-league free agent earlier this offseason. The Phillies had good scouting reports on Araujo and have seen his fastball up to 97 mph in the Venezuelan winter league. That was attractive to the Phillies because it will afford Araujo more development time. "There was competition for this guy," Ondo said. "Through (regular scouting) coverage, our guys have always liked him." Araujo has battled injuries and control issues during his time in pro ball, but he's healthy now. He struck out 50 and walked 28 in 50 total innings at Single A and Double A in 2014.
