[情報] Pirates exercise 2010 option on manager John Russell
BRADENTON, FLORIDA (TICKER) —The Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday exercised
their 2010 option on manager John Russell's contract.
Russell, 48, guided the woeful Pirates to a 67-95 record last season, his first
with the team.
But Pittsburgh general manager Neal Huntington evidently is impressed with
Russell.
“JR met or exceeded expectations in his first year as the Pirates manager,”
Huntington said in a statement.“His club worked hard to play the game properly
and battled from the first out until the last.
“His leadership, knowledge, attention to detail, ability to see the big
picture and passion for things being done the right way made him the ideal
choice as our manager a year ago, and made the decision to pick up his option
for 2010 an easy decision.”
The Pirates have endured 16 consecutive losing seasons and have not finished
higher than fifth in the National League Central Division since 2003.
