[情報] Bucs can't solve Hampton, fall to Astros

PITTSBURGH -- The fact that Astros lefty Mike Hampton hadn't pitched against
the Pirates since 2003 proved to be of little consequence. Just as he has
through most of his career, Hampton continued his dominant string of
performances against Pittsburgh, as Houston handed the Pirates a 4-1 loss in
front of 20,690 at PNC Park on Wednesday night.
After being shut out in their past two games, the Astros burst out for four
runs in the first three innings against Pirates starter Ross Ohlendorf. After
a strong pitching performance in his season debut a week ago, Ohlendorf was
knocked around for eight hits over just five innings.
Astros first baseman Carlos Lee drove in three of the four Houston runs with a
sacrifice fly and two-run double. Ohlendorf dropped to 0-2 with the loss and
broke a string of five consecutive quality starts from Pirates pitchers.
While Houston's offense was coming alive, the Pirates' was stifled by Hampton,
who entered the game 10-3 with a 2.71 ERA lifetime against the Pirates.
Pittsburgh batters struck out eight times against Hampton in six innings.
Pittsburgh's best opportunity to score came in the sixth when, for the first
time in the game, a runner advanced past first. With runners on first and
second, catcher Ryan Doumit sent a long line drive to deep left field. But
Astros left fielder Lee made the grab at the wall to end the inning.
On an eccouraging pitching note, reliever Jesse Chaves, who was the last
player to make the team out of Spring Training, pitched two scoreless innings
in relief to save manager John Russell from having to extend his bullpen any
further.
