[花絮] Band of brothers unite in Arizona
PHOENIX -- It was a reunion of the LaRoche brothers on Thursday night -- Andy
of the Pirates,Adam of the D-backs and their non-baseball-playing older brother
, Jeff.
"A rare opportunity, this early in the year," Andy said on Friday hours before
the Pirates played the D-backs at Chase Field, with Jeff sitting next to him at
his locker. "They don't come to Pittsburgh until September [17-19]. So these
are the only times we're going to see each other. Maybe at the All-Star break,
or if we both make the [National League] team. That would be great."
Andy was at third base for the Pirates and batting seventh. He went into the
game hitting .111 (1-for-9). Adam was back at first base, batting cleanup in
the D-backs' lineup. A notoriously slow starter, Adam was 0-for-12 in his first
three games. Neither have driven in or scored a run.
But that doesn't change brotherly love.
"It's good to see him play, but more importantly to get to hang out with him,"
Adam said about Andy. "He's staying at the house so we're having a blast. It's
always fun playing against him, obviously playing with him was a blast. We're
kind of secretly rooting for each other to get hits as long as nobody's on base
and it doesn't affect the score."
The pair played for the Pirates in parts of the 2008 and '09 seasons. Their
father, Dave, was an All-Star pitcher who played for five teams in his 14-year
Major League career.
