2011 MLB.com's Top 50 Prospects: No. 18 Jameson Taillon, RHP
Jameson Taillon, RHP
2010 Rank: NR
Drafted: 2010, 1st (2)
ETA in Majors: 2013
Statistically speaking:
In his senior season of high school, Taillon went 8-1 with a 1.78 ERA,
striking out 114 and walking 21 over 62 2/3 innings at The Woodlands in Texas.
Scouting report:
He's the complete package of size, stuff and command. The 6-foot-6 right-hander
can throw four pitches for strikes. His fastball touches the upper-90s and
he may have had the best curveball in the Draft class. His slider also grades
out as plus at times. His changeup, which he didn't need much in high school,
should be a very good pitch as well. His makeup is off the charts.
Upside potential:
Josh Beckett with better command; a true No. 1 starter.
They said it: "He has a power fastball with advanced secondary pitches for
his experience level. In addition, he has the size, mentality and pitch
repertoire to become a quality Major League starting pitcher." -- Pirates
scouting director Greg Smith
He said it: "It's a relief just to go out there and be one of the guys, get
into the routine again. During the summer, I didn't throw at all." -- at the
Pirates' instructional league, his first taste of pro ball
