http://blog.mlive.com/fullcourtpress/2007/07/notes_from_pistons_fourth_summ. html Notes from Pistons' fourth Summer League contest Posted by Justin Rogers July 12, 2007 17:02PM The Pistons lost their first Summer League game as the Nuggets used a fast-break offense to pick apart a sloppy Detroit defense, 92-84. Here are some observations from the game. As always you can leave your own comments at the bottom of the entry. The full box score is available by clicking here. - Stuckey is showing some range, burying two long jumpers in the first quarter. That's something we didn't see a whole lot of lot of in the first three Summer League contests. - Speaking of range, Ibrahim Jaaber stroked a smooth bomb off a jump ball from about 25-feet out. Of course he badly air-balled two as the game progressed. Defensively, he's the Summer League's version Lindsey Hunter. He's all over the place, knocking balls away, getting in the ball handler's face and diving on the floor. - No Maxiell today, and you can see the effects on defense. Max is an intimidating presence in the paint, and without him in there, Denver is able to drive the ball whenever they please. His replacement in the lineup, Ali Traore, really struggled in the first quarter, racking up four turnovers and four personal fouls. - Sammy Mejia showed a nice offensive spark in the second quarter picking up an easy bucket after making a nice cut down the lane, and then shaking his defender and pulling up for a nice-looking 10-foot jumper off the dribble on the next possession. Still, there were a couple times when he went in the lane hard, but got too fancy trying to make a layup instead of going hard at the defender and drawing the foul. Inconsistency on the offensive end, both in decision making and execution, seem to be Mejia's major flaw. - Samb's biggest weak point, aside from his need to bulk up more, is his one-on-one offensive game, specifically more than six or seven feet away from the rim. He gets his points similar to the way Ben Wallace does, on offensive stick backs, dunks and short jumpers. He has more range than Wallace, but that's only valuable when he's wide open. We shouldn't be very surprised at this deficiency since he's only been playing basketball for four or five years, but it's definitely something he should focus on improving whether he's in Spain or Fort Wayne next season. - Also, can someone better explain the concept of goaltending to Cheikh? It seems he's guilty of the violation at least twice a game. - Continuing on the Samb theme, Cheikh has improved each game with his pick-and-roll defense. The first game he looked lost, but his defensive recovery against Denver was starting to look adequate. Also, after reading a couple scouting reports on Samb today, my attention was drawn to how good Samb's hand are. He rarely bobbles any passes. - Von Wafer is one of my new favorite names in sports. - The referees called a series of traveling and carrying calls in the second half. Don't they know there's a limit to one of those calls a game in the NBA? - Arron Afflalo easily had his best Summer League performance. Even though an 8-18 shooting performance is nothing to call home about, Afflalo displayed an impressive jumper arsenal. - The Pistons' transition defense was poor the entire night. Between the fast breaks and wide-open perimeter shots they allowed the Nuggets, Detroit never had a shot to win the game. - A few stat sheet observations. For the second straight game Sammy Mejia pulled down eight plus rebounds. He may not be scoring machine, but Mejia does contribute significantly in other areas. Also, former Piston Will Blalock scored 16 points on 5-9 shooting, grabbing four boards and dishing out three assists. (有空翻的人可以推文領取 感謝!) -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.229.129.207
