大致上是這樣子,把原文附在下面,請大家慢慢欣賞囉~~ Thank you for all your e-mails. I had over 200 in one week, and I promise I looked at every one. Many questions were duplicates. Others were just rants or opinions without serious questions. Hey, we love those too. The best of the best are posted at Monday Morning Manager on my Postcards from Elysian Fields blog . Audience participation is always welcome. Are the Rangers seriously considering trading Mark Teixeira? That would not make any sense to me, seeing as how he is the cornerstone to the franchise. Also, who are some free agent pitchers that are in the price range of the Rangers that they might take a look at during the offseason? -- Nick B., Marysville, Mich. I don't think the Rangers will deal Teixeira unless they make a blockbuster trade in which they get three or four good young players in return. I just don't see that happening, but it is a possibility. As far as free agent pitchers, I think the market is better than some people initially thought. There are some interesting names. Here's a dozen to look at: 1. Jason Schmidt -- He is an All-Star and a No. 1 starter but could be a big risk for the price he'll likely command. He's had some shoulder problems in his career, turns 34 in January and was 5-4 with a 4.76 ERA after the All-Star break. Caveat emptor. 2. Barry Zito -- He'll get big bucks from a big-market team, and the Mets seem to be the favorites. The Rangers would have to overpay mightily. 3. Jeff Suppan -- His stock is soaring. He'd be a good No. 2 or 3 starter behind Kevin Millwood, but it's hard to see the Cardinals letting him get away. 4. Ted Lilly -- The classic No. 4 starter, his value is probably up after a 15-win season. He has never pitched 200 innings, so teams need to be careful about overpaying. 5. Andy Pettitte -- His arm has much mileage on it, and he'll be 35 next June. But he has great makeup, he's left-handed and he has been successful in the American League. He's also from Texas. The Rangers have to look hard at him. 6. Vicente Padilla -- The Rangers should definitely make every effort to re-sign him. A four-year deal could be risky, but that's probably what it's going to take. 7. Mark Mulder -- He had surgery on his left shoulder and won't be ready for the start of next season. Any contract would have to be incentive laden, but it could be worth the risk. He's only 29. If the surgery works, he could be a big winner again. The Cardinals struck gold taking a similar gamble on Chris Carpenter. 8. Randy Wolf -- An intriguing name. He was 4-0 with a 5.56 ERA in 12 starts at the end of the season after returning from major elbow surgery. He was a 16-game winner in 2003 and is only 30. He's also left-handed and could be a great buy. 9. Tony Armas Jr. -- He was my sleeper last offseason. I thought he would be a steal for somebody. He re-signed with Washington and was 9-12 with a 5.03 ERA in 154 innings. 10. Kerry Wood -- The Rangers have to kick the tires here. The native Texan is 29 and pitched in four games last year because of a torn rotator cuff. He says he wants to pitch in relief in 2007 to save wear and tear on the shoulder. Let him. It could pay big down the road. 11. Mark Buehrle -- The White Sox have a $9.5 million option on a pitcher who was 12-13 with a 4.99 ERA in 2006. If they decline the option, the Rangers have to be interested to a significant degree. He turns 28 in March and has pitched over 200 innings in six straight seasons. 12. Adam Eaton -- If the Rangers get a chance, they should re-sign him. But they still need one more who is better than him. was curious to know what kind of payroll you expect the Rangers to be working with for this upcoming season. Good starting pitching doesn't come cheap, and we have a few of our big named guys coming up for new contracts as well. Can this team afford to address the situations we need to in order to win? -- Dirk K., Fort Worth, Texas Owner Tom Hicks hates talking about payroll. My guess is it will be $75-80 million. You are right. Good pitching doesn't come cheap. The Rangers will need Robinson Tejeda and at least one other young pitcher to contribute at the back end of the rotation. They also need Nelson Cruz to be a big contributor in right field. Good teams spend a lot of money, but they also have to spend it wisely. The Athletics made a smart move with Frank Thomas. Moves like that can make up for a lower payroll. I think 2007 should be John Danks' year. He is the future of this team in my opinion. What do you think about putting him in the 5th spot in the rotation and sticking it out with him a lot like the Mariners did with Felix Hernandez? -- Chris S., North Richland Hills, Texas Danks doesn't have overpowering stuff like Hernandez and will probably need more time in Triple-A Oklahoma to finish off his development. But unless everything goes perfectly for the Rangers in 2007, I think Danks will pitch for them at some point. It seems like since the big four guys in our Minor League system (Diamond, Danks, Volquez and Hurley) have been so highly thought of that we have something major to look forward to. Danks seems to be near ready, but our boy Volquez has shown brilliant flashes yet no consistency, and Diamond's development has not been as fast as thought before. When will we start to see these cats up in the Major Leagues? And will Diamond ever be in the rotation due to the fact that his curveball is suspect? -- Eric R., San Bernadino, Calif. Diamond is progressing. Like Danks, he needs more time in Triple-A, and there is a possibility that he could end up in the bullpen if the breaking ball doesn't come. He reminds me a lot of Rick Helling, who won 20 games for the Rangers. What are the chances the Rangers trade Michael Young to the Astros for Brad Lidge? -- Aaron N., Houston No chance. You have to be an Astros fan. Thank you for playing "Who Can Dupe the Rangers?" Will Nate Gold have a chance to break in the with the big-league club next year? Are the Rangers looking to trade Teixeira or Hank Blalock, and if so, will they look to fill that hole with a youngster in the organization (like Nate Gold), or will they look to give that spot to a proven veteran? -- Tracy B., Payette, Ind. Gold had a break-through season for the Rangers at Double-A Frisco. He'll play at Oklahoma this season. The Rangers still like Jason Botts, who is coming back from wrist surgery and will be ready for Spring Training. Botts is ahead of him in the DH pecking order. If the Rangers trade Teixeira, a dubious proposition at best, it's unlikely they would fill his spot with Gold. After the Oakland A's let go of Ken Macha, it would seem that the Rangers would be going after him due to him recently taking the A's to two American League West titles. Do you see the Rangers making any attempt in doing so? -- Dennis K., Forney, Texas No. Macha had problems communicating with his players in Oakland, and the Rangers don't want to go down the road. You say people in Texas don't have the stomach for an extensive rebuilding project like the Tigers had from 119 losses a couple years ago? T.R., you have been around this team forever. I think fans have stomached a LONGER rebuilding project, one that is torn down in panic and for economics every year. The problem isn't the fans' patience, its that management that has no patience for a plan. You've spent too much time on the links with John Hart, man. -- Mike, Muskogee, Okla. I never got that invitation to play at Dallas National. Guess they were afraid for other golfers. Are the Ranger's considering John Koronka for a starting role next season? He showed promise last season with seven wins even though he missed more than a month at the end of the season. -- Joe S., Orlando, Fla. Koronka is pitching in the Arizona Fall League, and I think he will be a candidate for the fifth spot in the rotation. It's a crowded field, but he will at least get a shot. Would the Rangers consider trying to acquire third baseman Troy Glaus from the Blue Jays? The guy was power itself with a nice glove at third base. -- Stephen R., Toronto Why? Are you trying to run him out of town? I like Glaus. He's a solid player, a proven run producer and his contract is reasonable for a guy who hit 38 home runs and drove in 104 RBIs last season. If he does that, even the $250,000 paid annually by the club for his wife's equestrian training is worth the money. I don't see why the Blue Jays would trade him, but he would be a good fit in Texas if the Rangers need a third baseman. What pitchers would it take for the Rangers to be a dominate team? -- Stephen H., Denton, Texas Johan Santana. Sandy Koufax. Bob Gibson. Tom Seaver. Plus Dennis Eckersley as a closer. Yes, the Rangers are big up here. What about a special Alaska promotion? I go down each year to Spring Training in Arizona. -- Michael S., Anchorage, Alaska You got it. Anybody who comes down from Alaska for Spring Training gets a night out at the Sage and Sand, our favorite watering hole just outside the front gate at Luke Air Force Base. Any chance of working out a trade deal for Dontrelle Willis in the offseason? Maybe a Blalock-plus-prospect trade? Ben S., Richardson, Texas It doesn't look like the Marlins are going to trade Willis. They came farther than people thought this year and are probably looking to contend next season with Willis as the centerpiece of the rotation. What's up with Brad Wilkerson? Is he even in the Rangers' plans for '07? He always seemed to be a pretty good hitter when healthy. Scott R., Bloomington, Ill. Agreed. The Rangers plan on him being in their lineup, either as the left fielder or the designated hitter. He had surgery on his shoulder and is expected to be ready for Spring Training. He is definitely in their plans. T.R. Sullivan is a reporter for MLB.com.
