The Rangers have made improving their starting pitching a top priority this offseason and officially submitted a bid on pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on Wednesday. Washington has been busy since being hired as the Rangers manager, and he's not about to slow down anytime soon. His first priority is to fill out his coaching staff and another ex-Ranger could come on board soon. Washington is expected to hire former Gold Glove outfielder Gary Pettis as his first-base coach. Pettis, who won five Gold Gloves, including one for the Rangers in 1990, will be in charge of outfield and base-running instruction. He played for the Rangers in 1990-91.
