標題：Texas signs catcher Guillermo Quiroz to Major League contract ARLINGTON -- Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels announced today the club has signed catcher Guillermo Quiroz to a Major League contract. The club also announced the signing of right-handed pitchers Mike Wood and Willie Eyre to Minor League contracts with invites to Major League Spring Training. Quiroz, 25, spent last season in the Seattle organization split between San Antonio (AA), Tacoma (AAA) and the Mariners. He saw action in one game with the Mariners, going 0-2. In 39 games in the minor leagues in 2006, he combined to bat .300 (42-140) with eight doubles, three home runs and 28 RBI. He was acquired by Seattle on a waiver claim from Toronto prior to the start of the 2006 season. He was selected as a Florida State League All-Star in 2002 and named by Baseball America to the Double-A All-Star squad in 2003. Prior to the start of the 2004 season he was ranked as the Blue Jays third-best prospect and the 35th-best prospect in baseball. The Venezuelan native was the starting catcher for the World team in the 2003 Futures Game. Wood, 26, was originally obtained by Texas on a waiver claim on Oct. 11, but was not tendered a contract on Dec. 12, making him a free agent. He made 23 appearances (seven starts) for Kansas City in 2006. He went 3-3 with a 5.71 ERA (41 ER/64 2/3 IP) with 29 strikeouts and 23 walks. He spent two months on the disabled list with an inflamed back. He made six rehab starts at Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Wichita, combining to go 0-2, 6.41 (14 ER/19 2/3 IP). Originally selected by Oakland in the 10th round of the 2001 June Draft, Wood was acquired by Kansas City on June 24, 2004, along with third baseman Mark Teahen in exchange for right-hander Octavio Dotel. Over his last two seasons at Triple-A Rochester in 2004 and 2005, Eyre combined to go 16-10 with 11 saves and a 3.29 ERA (80 ER/218.2 IP) in 102 appearances (21 starts). He is the brother of Scott Eyre, a relief pitcher for the Chicago Cubs.
