Derek Lee made the most of his time in the Dominican Winter League, going 9-1
with a 1.49 ERA in 16 appearances. The 32-year-old left-hander struck out 43
over 78 1/3 innings for the Aguilas Cibaenas, helping them reach the
championship series against the Tigres del Licey.
Lee made one start in the best-of-seven series, tossing 6 1/3 scoreless
frames in a Game 3 victory. Cibaenas held a 3-2 edge over the Tigres at the
time of this update.
In the Mexican Pacific League, catcher Miguel Ojeda finally emerged from his
postseason slump for the Venados de Mazatlan, who trail the Naranjeros de
Hermosillo, 2-1, in the best-of-seven championship series.
After going 0-for-4 in Game 1 to drop his postseason average to .157, the
32-year-old backstop responded in Game 2 and went 3-for-5 with a leadoff
homer in the sixth inning and three RBIs. However, Mazatlan was unable to
capitalize on his outburst, dropping a 10-7, 11-inning decision.
