The Rangers need to find out if Sammy Sosa can still hit and Eric Gagne can still pitch. They need to find a fifth starter. They need to evaluate third baseman Hank Blalock and outfielder Brad Wilkerson as they come back from shoulder surgery. Gagne, who had back surgery last season and Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery in 2005, is expected to be at full strength, but Connor said the Rangers obviously will be careful with him. The Rangers expect 55 total players for the first full-squad workout.
