[外電] Brandon McCarthy, Rangers agree to 1-year deal
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Injury-plagued pitcher Brandon McCarthy agreed to a
$650,000, one-year contract with the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
McCarthy, who was eligible for salary arbitration, missed the first four months
of last season because of right forearm inflammation, then pitched only 22
innings in his five starts (1-1, 4.09 ERA) in August and September. His last
appearance was Sept. 15, then he didn't pitch again because of a strained
flexor tendon in his right middle finger
In 2007, his first season with the Rangers, McCarthy was limited to 23 games
(22 starts) because of blisters on his pitching hand and a stress fracture in
his right shoulder blade.
The Rangers acquired McCarthy from the Chicago White Sox in December 2006 for
John Danks, a Texas native and 2003 first-round draft pick. Danks earned a spot
in Chicago's rotation in 2007 and the hard-throwing lefty was 12-9 with a 3.32
ERA in 33 starts last season.
With McCarthy's deal completed, three Texas players remained eligible to file
for arbitration Thursday: outfielder Marlon Byrd, right-hander Frank Francisco
and lefty C.J. Wilson.
McCarthy is among 19 pitchers from the Rangers organization scheduled to
participate next week in a winter development camp with new pitching coach Mike
Maddux.
