[外電] Texas SS Young will move to third base
ARLINGTON, TEXAS (TICKER) —Texas Rangers shortstop Michael Young has had a
change of heart, and will change positions.
Young agreed on Thursday to move to third base, paving the way for highly
touted prospect Elvis Andrus.
Young, 32, balked at changing positions when he was asked in December. Earlier
this week he asked to be traded, but has since rescinded that request.
Young, who won his first Gold Glove last season, already has switched positions
once in his career. He started as a second baseman and moved to shortstop when
the Rangers traded Alex Rodriguez to the New York Yankees in 2004.
Young's move makes room for the 20-year-old Andrus, who was acquired in the
deal that sent first baseman Mark Teixeira to Atlanta at the trade deadline two
years ago.
Andrus spent all of 2008 at Class AA Frisco of the Texas League, hitting .295
with 82 runs scored and 54 stolen bases.
