ARLINGTON -- Scott Feldman has not won in Arlington since May 9, 2008. That
is a dry spell of historic proportions as far as the Rangers are concerned,
and Feldman will be trying to end it when he pitches in Game 2 of a
doubleheader against the Athletics on Friday.
Feldman has gone 13 straight starts without getting a win at home, the
longest such streak in Rangers history. He is 0-3 with a 4.44 ERA in those 13
starts. He has made three starts at home this season and has a 2.00 ERA but
was unable to get a win in any of those starts.
The longest previous streak in Rangers history was 11 starts without a win at
home by Charlie Leibrandt in 1993. He was 0-6 with a 4.76 ERA in those 11
starts. Pete Broberg was 0-7 with a 4.35 ERA in 10 straight starts at home
for the Rangers in 1972-73.
This will be the Rangers' first doubleheader this season. Rookie Tommy Hunter
is expected to pitch Game 1 for the club, although an official decision
hasn't been announced.
The doubleheader is a result of the two teams being rained out on April 29.
The Rangers have still won three of four against the Athletics this season.
The Rangers played two doubleheaders last year, sweeping the Orioles on April
10 and splitting one with the Mets on June 15 at Shea Stadium. The Rangers
played six doubleheaders over their previous two seasons after playing just
three over four years from 2003-06. Over the past 15 seasons, the Rangers are
11-4-6 in doubleheaders.
