How Rangers hitters fared: David Murphy and Nelson Cruz had three hits
apiece, and one of Cruz's was his team-leading 20th homer. Andruw Jones was
one of three others with two hits, and he drove in four runs. Seven of the
Rangers' 14 hits went for extra bases.
How Rangers pitchers fared: Derek Holland probably would like a do-over in
the fifth, when he allowed a three-run homer to Dioner Navarro, but otherwise
he pitched effectively for six innings. Holland also allowed a solo shot to
Jason Bartlett and has issued 11 homers in 55 1/3 innings.
HIGHLIGHTS
RANGERS FIRST: Young and Byrd walked, and Jones homered. Rangers 3, Rays 0
RAYS SECOND: Bartlett homered to center. Rangers 3, Rays 1
RANGERS SECOND: Teagarden doubled, Andrus walked and Kinsler walked. Young
doubled to center to drive in three runs. Rangers 6, Rays 1
RANGERS THIRD: Cruz singled and Murphy doubled. Teagarden hit a sacrifice
fly. Rangers 7, Rays 1
RAYS FIFTH: Bartlett singled, Kapler doubled and Navarro homered. Rangers 7,
Rays 4
RANGERS FIFTH: Cruz homered. Murphy tripled and scored on a single by
Teagarden. Rangers 9, Rays 4
RANGERS SIXTH: Byrd singled and scored on a double by Jones. Rangers 10, Rays
4
RANGERS EIGHTH: Young singled, and Byrd was hit by a pitch. Blalock singled
to score Young. Cruz singled in Byrd. Rangers 12, Rays 4
