ARLINGTON – Josh Hamilton is rejoining the Rangers for the start of their series against the Los Angeles Angels tonight. And to make room for him, the team announced that first baseman Chris Davis will be sent down to Triple-A Oklahoma City. "Chris needs to get down there and get things together," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Josh has been down there for a few games now, and it's time for him to get back here and helping our team." Davis has struggled at the plate, hitting .202 with 114 strikeouts in 258 at-bats. "It was only a matter of time," he said. "I wasn't making adjustments, and you can't expect them to stick with me all this time. I'm not down about it. It's just kind of a relief to know I can go get my head on straight down there." The Rangers activated Hamilton, who has been recovering from surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle. The decision on Hamilton lingered for a few days while he worked to regain his swing and timing in rehabilitation starts at Double-A Frisco and Oklahoma City. As recently as Sunday afternoon, Washington said the timetable for Hamilton's return was "still not set in stone." But that changed after Hamilton played center field and went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple in Game 1 of the RedHawks' doubleheader Sunday against Omaha. He went 0-for-3 in Game 2 as the designated hitter. Washington said Hank Blalock will get the lion's share of time at first base, and that the team kept rookie Julio Borbon on the roster because he offers good speed off the bench. Padilla held back: Vicente Padilla, who missed his last scheduled start because of a sore shoulder, experienced some discomfort during a bullpen session Sunday and will not start as expected Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels. Instead, right-hander Dustin Nippert will come off the disabled list and start in Padilla's place. General manager Jon Daniels said the team expects Padilla to make his next start Wednesday against the Angels or Thursday to start the Seattle series. Padilla will be reassessed after another scheduled bullpen session today. Big road trip: The Rangers start a big road trip tonight against the Los Angeles Angels, their division front-running rival. Next they travel to the creeping Seattle Mariners, who are 3 1/2 games back in the West Division. The Rangers are 5-1 in six games this season against Los Angeles, all in Arlington. Tonight is the first of nine games the Rangers will play in Anaheim this season. The Angels next return to Arlington for three games Sept. 18-20. Harrison update: Injured left-hander Matt Harrison said "August 1 is a realistic timetable" for his return from shoulder inflammation. He threw long toss Sunday and will visit a neurologist today before heading to the Rangers facility in Arizona. Harrison said he will be in Arizona until Friday and then throw a bullpen session Saturday in Seattle. Harrison will throw live batting practice July 13 in Arizona and July 16 in Arlington. "It's a little bit of a slower process, but I want to make sure I'm healthy," he said. International signings: The Rangers announced the signing of five players from Latin America, including two – Jurickson Profar and Luis Sardinas – who are rated among the Top 25 international free agents by Baseball America. Profar, a shortstop, and outfielder Chris Garcia, both 16-year-olds from Curacao, toured the Rangers clubhouse Sunday after working out with Ron Washington in the afternoon. The team also signed shortstop Luis Mendez of Venezuela and left-handed pitcher Daniel de la Torre of Mexico. Sardinas is also a shortstop from Venezuela.
