Padilla looks ready to go Wednesday for Rangers 09:38 AM CDT on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 By JEFF WILSON / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News ANAHEIM, Calif. – An extra day is apparently all Vicente Padilla needed for his sore right shoulder to feel well enough to pitch this week against the Los Angeles Angels. The Rangers' right-hander told manager Ron Washington and pitching coach Mike Maddux that he is available to start Wednesday. He was originally scheduled to start Saturday but asked to be pushed back to today. On Sunday, he asked for an extra day. But Padilla threw a bullpen session Monday at Angel Stadium before the Rangers and Angels played for sole possession of first place in the American League West. "Padilla told us he's pretty certain," Washington said. "And if Padilla says he's pretty certain, I believe Padilla." After Padilla starts Wednesday, the Rangers are scheduled to start Tommy Hunter, Scott Feldman and Kevin Millwood. Sunday's starter hasn't been decided. Dustin Nippert is scheduled to make his 2009 debut tonight after overcoming a strain near his shoulder blade that has hampered him since late in spring training. First things first: The Rangers optioned first baseman Chris Davis to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Davis was hitting .202 with 15 homers, 33 RBIs and a major league-worst 114 strikeouts. The Rangers expect to see Davis again soon enough, but until he does return, three players could man first base. Hank Blalock will get the majority of the work at first, a position he learned last season and has played on occasion this year. But Andruw Jones will also see time there, and the Rangers will see if David Murphy can handle the position. Murphy was a first baseman in high school. Kinsler up in final vote: Day 1 of online voting for the final spot on the American League All-Star team went to Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, who holds the edge over four over players. Kinsler, who led the regular balloting until being overtaken in the final week by Boston's Dustin Pedroia, said he has gotten over the disappointment of not being one of the first 32 players but still wants to be in St. Louis for the July 14 All-Star Game. He understands that if he doesn't make his second career All-Star appearance, he can take advantage of the rest to try to help the Rangers in the second half of the season. The Rangers' Josh Hamilton and Michael Young were named All-Stars on Sunday. Briefly: Catcher Max Ramirez has been placed on the Triple-A disabled list and been shipped to Surprise, Ariz., to rehab from tendinitis in his left wrist. He had an MRI and doesn't need surgery. ... Right-hander Brandon McCarthy (stress fracture, scapula) played catch Sunday, and left-hander Matt Harrison on Monday visited a neurologist, who found no nerve problems in Harrison's sore shoulder.
