Texas Rangers' Millwood will get extra rest 10:52 PM CDT on Sunday, July 12, 2009 By JEFF WILSON / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News SEATTLE – Kevin Millwood won't make his second-half debut until the fourth game after the All-Star break as the Rangers attempt to give their right-handed ace extra rest. Millwood entered the first-half finale against Seattle as the American League's leader in innings pitched with 130. He logged 114 pitches in six-plus innings Saturday night and allowed all four runs in the Rangers' 4-1 loss. Outside of a lousy performance to start the road trip, there hasn't been a drastic decline in his performance. But Millwood said the days off will be beneficial. "My body's kind of telling me it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a few extra days," he said. "I've got a lot of innings, so it's probably a good idea." Vicente Padilla, who pitched Wednesday and suffered a bruised palm that is all but healed, will head the rotation out of the break in a three-game series against Minnesota. Scott Feldman and Tommy Hunter will follow. Millwood will start the first of three games against Boston. The Rangers haven't settled on a fifth starter. Kinsler misses out again: AL manager Joe Maddon bypassed Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler as the All-Star replacement for Boston's Dustin Pedroia. Maddon went with one of his own, Rays first baseman Carlos Pena. Kinsler didn't appear too upset, saying, "It's not my right to go." Pena, the former Rangers first baseman, leads the league in home runs and will compete in the Home Run Derby against Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz. "It's one of those things, you can cut it or slice it so many different ways and everybody's going to appeal to you with their own agenda, and I get it, I absolutely get it," Maddon told reporters in Tampa. "But at the end of the day, the fact that he [Pena] leads the league in home runs, I think, matters the most." Resting up: Manager Ron Washington said he most hopes the All-Star break will benefit Kinsler, Millwood and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia most. "[Kinsler] is experiencing something he's never experienced before," Washington said. "I don't think that kid's ever been this tired." Washington called Saltalamacchia an "animal" behind the plate during the first half. He received a day off Sunday but has started 66 of the Rangers' 87 games. Saltalamacchia said he's dealing with the normal aches and pains, but he will take a mental break this week. "I've been at the field every day since the season began at 11 o'clock doing video and all that stuff," he said. "I'm just going to take those three or four days off and relax." Briefly: Right-handed prospect Neftali Feliz struck out two in one scoreless inning in the World team's 7-5 victory over the U.S. in Sunday's Futures Game in St. Louis. -- ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ Go Texas Rangers ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 123.205.40.18
