Sources: Brandon Webb could make $10M
Some of the terms of Brandon Webb's one-year agreement with the Rangers have
been reported.
Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney that the deal is worth $3
million plus incentives. ESPN.com baseball writer Jerry Crasnick's sources
say the total package could be worth $8 million to $10 million.
There's no word yet on what Webb would have to do to reach the incentives. If
he can get anywhere near the form that earned him the 2006 National League Cy
Young Award, the Rangers will be glad to pay him $10 million.
The Rangers are risking much less on Webb than they did last year when they
rolled the dice on the oft-injured Rich Harden, who was guaranteed $6.5
million then went 5-5 with a 5.58 ERA.
