[討論] Quarterly Progress Report
This post grades players based not only on performance, but on expectations
of performance as well through 40 games. A simple example; a .300 hitter
will not get as good a grade if we know he's a .300 hitter, and expect him to
hit .300. Whereas, a player who is not expected to hit .300, yet is, will
make a higher grade b/c he's exceeded our, that is to say, my, expectations
of him. A 'B' would indicate the player met, but did not exceed,
expectations. Disagree, if you must...
() *absolute grade w/o expectation handicap
Torrealba C (C-)
Tough one to start because, having seen so little of him, it was difficult to
know what to expect from him. But I certainly expected OBP to be higher than
the .250's. He doesn't strike out a whole lot, but he's gotten almost no
walks. It'd be nice if we still had Hurdle to work on this issue...His D
started off bad; lots of fumbling and misfires. But seems to have improved
since then.
Napoli C+ (B-)
Would like to see the average a little, or a lot higher, but he's got a good
OBP and a good slugging, positive signs for the future. His defense is as
expected. Bad.
Moreland A+ (A-)
Wow! He's a true gamer, a guy who's had to prove himself at every level and
has done just that. I'm still sick over his grand slam being robbed from
him. I counted it in my grade. Defense has been good, bat has been good,
and clutch. Love this guy!
Young A (A+)
For all the hate, or "criticisms" he received from this board during the
preseason, it's pretty satisfying to see him playing as well as he is for the
few of us who defended him. He's hitting as well as ever right now, and even
showing some nice D while filling in at second. This board should be a
virtual Crow Feast, but I've yet to see many people even take a nibble.
Davis B+ (C+)
Nice to see him swinging a little better with limited playing time. Still
can look bad at times, but I like his approach. He'll be tough to send back
down if/when everyone gets healthy.
Kinsler C+ (B)
He works counts well, and does a good job getting on base and hits for good
power. But his uppercut swing remains a pain in everyone's rear. He pops up
more than Willie Mays Hays, jogs out grounders, fails to cover bags, etc. If
he can hit .270, the way he works walks, that'd be great. Still has a
two-cent head, and is prone to mental lapses.
Andrus B- (B)
Lot of early errors gives him the minus, but he seems to have worked through
that. Hitting not progressing which is disappointing, but has done well on
the basepaths. I hope to see those hitting stats improve, tho.
Beltre B- (A-)
He's made some stellar defensive plays, but also made a few costly errors.
His approach is clearly an 'all or nothing' mentality at the plate, leading
to inconsistency. Good power certainly, but he has to get his OBP up.
Murphy B (B-)
You absolutely get what you expect with Murph. He's the kind of player,
whatever aspect of his game you're describing, you'd use the word "good" for
everything. Never "great" Never "subpar." Good speed, good arm, good power,
good guy. And is it just me or do home plate umpires despise him? He gets
more balls called strikes than anyone I can remember
Borbon C+ (C-)
The low grade is for two things; His very slow start and the impression I
have that he seems to lack good baseball instincts. He sometimes takes a
poor initial step, or takes awkward routes to the ball, and, for all his
speed, he often gets thrown out by a mile on steal attempts, gets picked off,
etc. He shows great athleticism at times, and makes some nice plays as well
as some headscratchers. I like the way he's been swinging lately. His
injury is a bummer for him personally, but the team hasn't felt it.
Cruz C+ (B-)
Started off crazy hot, then went ice cold. Now he's injured. Just a
fantastic hitter when he's on. Awful when he's cold. These recurring quad
injuries are becoming a real nuisance.
Hamilton Inc
Despite the lack of HR's he was hitting just fine when he got injured. It'll
be great when he returns.
CJ Wilson B+ (A)
CJ showing he's pretty much the same pitcher we saw last year. Maybe even a
touch better. That's a plus.
Colby B- (B+)*yesterday's start not
included
As before, the minus comes from his poor start. But in my opinion, he's our
best starter. He hasn't quite hit his stride yet, but he's steadily
improving. Still giving up the longball, which is a concern.
Harrison B+ (B-)
Talk about streaky. Awesome, then just awful. I gave him a plus because I
didn't really expect much from him at all. The fact that he's still in the
rotation puts him ahead of my preseason expectations.
Holland B (C+)
Holland is also inconsistent, but in a different way. He'll be rolling along
good, then blow up for an inning, then get back on track. Strange.
Ogando A+ (A)
I was hoping he'd do well as a starter, but I didn't realize he'd do this
well, and I certainly didn't expect it. The blister remains a concern, and
the only reason his name should be mentioned as a candidate to replenish the
bullpen. I'm against it in the end tho. I think we need another lefty.
The Bullpen C- (C)
Late leads lost, Close games turned into blowouts. The bullpen has been
poor, especially in close games, which gives them the minus. Still, a lot
of pitchers have come out of the pen for us this year, not all of them true
MLers. We only need a handful to start clicking and we'll be all right.
