Rangers prospect Olt breaks collarbone
ARLINGTON -- Mike Olt, who was chosen by the Rangers with the 49th overall
pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and sent to high Class A Myrtle
Beach this season, suffered a broken left collarbone Monday night in a
collision at home plate in his team's 3-2 loss to Winston-Salem.
Olt will undergo surgery Wednesday. The typical recovery time from such a
surgery is 10-12 weeks.
Olt, 22, is hitting .286 in 54 games this season for Myrtle Beach with 10
home runs and 34 RBIs. He has increased his power production from last season
despite playing at a higher level. In 2010, he hit .293 with nine home runs
and 43 RBIs in 69 games for low Class A Spokane.
Olt played college ball at the University of Connecticut and was ranked by
Baseball America as the third-best college defensive player available in the
2010 Draft.
