Lowe strains hamstring, could miss ALDS
By Richard Durrett
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mark Lowe was diagnosed with a Grade II left hamstring
strain on Thursday, making it likely he won't be ready for the playoffs.
Lowe injured the hamstring during sprints as part of pregame drills on
Wednesday. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Lowe has never had a
hamstring issue.
"It was a freak thing," Daniels said. "It definitely puts his availability in
doubt."
Lowe was one of the arms that Ron Washington was using in the seventh inning.
He had retired all five batters he faced in the last two outings and had a
2.75 ERA in his last 24 games. The injury will test the Rangers' bullpen
depth, but that's another reason they went out at the trade deadline and
acquired Koji Uehara and Mike Adams.
Lowe received a platlet-rich plasma (PRP) injection to help speed up the
healing. He was evaluated by team physician Dr. Keith Meister in Texas on
Thursday afternoon.
