Scouting Report: Cody Buckel (RHP) BLUF: High floor, low ceiling type that could max out as a number three or four starter. 高floor低ceiling型的投手，最多可能長成3~4號的先發 The Player: Cody Buckel (RHP, Texas Rangers) – Selected by the Rangers in the 2nd round in 2010. Made four relief appearances in the Arizona League that year, allowing two hits and one walk in five innings while striking out nine. Pitched 96.2 innings with Hickory (Low-A) at age 19 in 2011, posting a 2.61 ERA, less than a hit per inning and 120 strikeouts against just 27 walks. Continued to dominate in first half of 2012, posting a 1.31 ERA in 13 starts. Allowed just 49 hits and 25 walks in 75.2 innings with 91 strikeouts. Delivery invokes thoughts of Tim Lincecum. Good extension and finish out front. Grade – 60/60 Overall Fastball: Generally average pitch that plays up a half grade with movement and command. Will show consistent 91-93 mph velocity at times but not with any regularity. If higher velo shows more frequently, could be a true plus pitch when packaged with other aspects. Not a focus of arsenal and may not get the work needed to be consistently average. Likely fringy fourth or fifth pitch long term. Very cerebral pitcher that shows advanced feel for working through a lineup multiple times and keeping hitters off balance. Does a good job controlling the running game by giving different looks. Very polished for his age and won’t be challenged until the upper levels of the system. Depth and overall quality of arsenal, combined with present and projected command make him a low risk prospect. Only real risk is associated with potential for injury that exists in any young pitcher. Future: Should see Double-A before the close of the 2012 season. Will need some time to polish game at the upper levels but could be ready for a big league cameo in 2013.
