BA The Scouting Department: Top Shortstops
咱們有上榜的是排第14的Drew Meyer
14. Drew Meyer, Rangers
Age: 22 Level: Double-A 2002 Ranking: NR
The Rangers don't have any immediate plans to move Meyer off of shortstop, but
ever since they spent the 10th overall pick in the 2002 draft on him there has
been speculation he'll move to center field or second base. Meyer spent his
first full season exclusively at shortstop. It's debatable whether Meyer could
stay at short, Alex Rodriguez ahead of him or not. He committed 33 errors this
season between Class A Stockton and Double-A Frisco. Meyer is a slightly
above-average runner, and reportedly not as quick as he was in college, but he
has 70 arm strength and an outstanding natural feel for the game. "His instincts
makes his whole game better," another AL scout said. At the plate, Meyer
doesn't have a classic approach--his first move is to bail. "He's a guy with an
unorthodox start to his swing, but he gets the head through the zone as quick
as anyone, and impacts the ball. It jumps off his bat. His power numbers don't
show it yet, but watch him in BP." He struggled against lefties hitting just
.238.
